Above the coast between Diamante and Scalea stand the walls, church and castle of old Cirella, abandoned in the early nineteenth century after centuries of raids from the sea. From the top you see the island and the whole Riviera dei Cedri; below the ruins there is an open-air theatre.

A tip from someone who lives here

«Go up an hour before sunset: the sun goes down right behind the island.»

How you really get there

A road climbs to a small car park below the ruins; the last stretch is on foot, with no shade.
