Lungro is the seat of the Eparchy, the Byzantine-rite diocese created in 1919 for the Italo-Albanians of mainland Italy. The cathedral of San Nicola di Mira, rebuilt in 1721 after an earthquake destroyed the earlier church, is the most important place of the Byzantine rite in Calabria: go in slowly and look at the icons.

The village, 600 metres up, also has a long working history: rock salt was mined here for centuries, and the old mine is now a site of industrial archaeology.

Nearby are Acquaformosa and Firmo, two more Arbëreshë communities to visit on the same day.
